Your lawyer will do most of the heavy lifting in a personal injury claim. But you can lend a hand.
Here are some suggestions to help you get the most money possible.
Get Medical Treatment
Your case centers around just how hurt you are. A lot of the money can be tied to your pain and suffering; plus, how much it will take to get you back to normal. An independent expert, such as a doctor or other medical professional, will go a long way to proving your claim. If you tough it out or, as my old coach would say, “rub some dirt on it and keep going,” you can hurt your case. Also, follow the treatment prescribed. If you don’t do the things to get well, why would a judge or jury give you money to get better?
Keep the Evidence
Do not let the insurance company take the wrecked motorcycle, broken lawnmower, mislabeled pill bottle or anything else until you speak with your attorney. If that evidence is lost, it will be much harder to prove your case. I also suggest you keep any cast, cane, wheelchair and pictures of your stitches.
Don’t Go on Social Media
Do not mention your accident on Facebook. In fact, don’t go on social media at all. This can be evidence against you, and it can cost you plenty. Even a picture of you going to a concert can damage your case.
