Traffic Accidents: Roads Not as Safe as Expected

If you thought that the pandemic meant that roads were safer because fewer people were driving, you would be wrong.

Traffic deaths are up. For the first half of this year, traffic deaths in the U.S. increased by 16% over last year. This fact alone shows it is substantially more unsafe for you to be on the road.

Here is another statistic from the National Safety Council that will shock you. More than 2 million Americans consulted a doctor or other medical professional because of a car wreck in just the first 6 months of this year.

I can vouch for this trend from my own clients here in Mobile. I clearly see that there are more accidents, and these accidents are more severe.

Need further proof that driving is dangerous? The estimated cost of motor vehicle deaths, injuries, and property damage in the first half of 2021 was $241.9 billion. Yes, that is billion with a “b.”

Add to this that insurance company settlement amounts are possibly at an all-time low. The reason often given for this is the lack of jury trials during the pandemic. In the past, injured people had the option of asking 12 men and women from the community what was fair. That right, for most of us, has been put on hold.

These facts, and others, are why you need an experienced traffic accident lawyer on your side—a lawyer who can maneuver the tricky hurdles during a pandemic.
